Wortley Village is one of London’s older, denser neighbourhoods, and it drives like it: narrow streets, cars parked tightly on both sides, and steady pedestrian traffic around the Village’s shops and cafés. It’s an excellent place to practice judging space — figuring out whether two vehicles can actually pass each other between parked cars, and getting comfortable slowing right down near pedestrians stepping off curbs without a marked crossing.
Wellington Road and the busier arterials bordering the Village give a contrast once a student’s comfortable with the tighter streets: wider lanes, more speed, and more conventional intersections. We often start a lesson in the Village itself and finish on Wellington Road to cover both skill sets in one session.
Because so much of the Village is on-street parking, students also get practical parallel parking practice here — not the idealized version on an empty lot, but the real version between two parked cars with traffic behind you. Winter narrows those streets further once snowbanks build up, so following distance and mirror checks matter even more.
